Keep the Candies and Halloween Treats out of Dogs’ Reach
Candies are for tricks and treaters, not for dogs. Many Halloween treats are toxic for dogs. Chocolate can be very dangerous for dogs. Candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can cause serious problems for dogs.
Keep the Decorations Out of Dogs’ Reach
Never leave your dogs alone with Halloween decorations and be aware of which decorations could be dangerous for dogs.
Be Cautious with Dogs Costumes
It can be fun to choose a costume for your dogs. Make sure that your dogs loves it too and that the costume does not limit his or her movement, sight or ability to breathe. If your dogs seems stressed out or if your dogs shows abnormal behavior, just let your dogs wear his or her “birthday suit” or choose a festive bandana instead.
Keep your Dogs Calm and Identifiable
Halloween brings a lot of action and strangers. Too much of that can often be scary and stressful for dogs. Always make sure that your dogs wear proper identification (ID tags and/or microchip).
