Natura Pet Products is recalling its dry foods for dogs and cats because they may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria. The recall is for all their dry products with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2013. Brands include California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Innova, and Karma. The company said that their wet foods and biscuits are safe.
The affected products were sold online and through veterinary clinics and pet specialty retailers in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Costa Rica.
It can affect humans if they directly handle the pet food and don’t wash their hands. Symptoms for humans and animals are lethargy, fever, decreased appetite, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Infected pets can infect other animals and humans.
